Miramonti Boutique Small Luxury Hotel Avelengo (Bz) GaultMillau Design 3 Restaurants

Nestled in a rocky massif at 1,230 meters above sea level, the Miramonti Boutique Hotel welcomes cosmopolitan travelers and design enthusiasts amidst an unspoilt natural landscape. This peaceful retreat is located on the sunny Tschögglberg plateau, surrounded by 30 hectares of forest, and captivates with its breathtaking views of Merano, the Adige Valley and the impressive Alpine scenery. The village of Avelengo has remained true to its original character: the small hamlet of S. Caterina has a wildly romantic and enchanted air. Here, the 13th century Romanesque S. Caterina church is waiting to be admired.

The route to the Miramonti is likewise an adventure and an experience: a winding panoramic road leads from Merano to Avelengo. The Miramonti seems like a secret, mysterious place, as if one had just discovered something new. The structure blends discreetly but presently into nature, as if it was part of it. Finally arrived one wouldn’t want to leave this place full of energy anymore. The hosts welcome international travelers with care and kindness, pamper them according to the best art of hospitality.

Carmen & Klaus. Hosts with passion.

Carmen and Klaus share their lives for a long time already. They met at the hotel management school in Merano. Their common future seemed predetermined. They traveled to many countries, gained valuable experience in the international hotel industry, and approached life with openness and curiosity. It soon became clear: they wanted to become hoteliers, present travelers with unforgettable moments, amaze them with first-class services and welcome them as friends.

Only 23 years old, they were offered the opportunity to manage the Miramonti, which at the time was a residence. After six years, they wanted to aspire to something bigger. They entered the of luxury hotel management. For four years, they successfully managed a 400-bed Austrian hotel in the premium segment. After years of valuable apprenticeships and long travelling, Carmen and Klaus realized that they wanted to return to their homeland, Avelengo, to South Tyrol. In 2012, they bought the Miramonti and realized their great dream: to have their own hotel and turn it into a true soul place. The result is a gem that bears their signature: enriched with their values and designed according to their tastes. Today, casual chic meets an urban atmosphere, love of nature meets authenticity.

Closeness to their guests and the joy of offering them true hospitality have always been the center of their attention. With tireless dedication and great passion, Carmen works mainly behind the scenes. With sincere interest, she takes care of the needs of her employees and guests and skillfully manages the daily hotel business. She lives and breathes love for the extraordinary. Guests feel it everywhere, in every little detail. Carmen radiates joy and conveys her enthusiasm every day.

Klaus is a visionary. He works incessantly on new ideas and draws inspiration from his surroundings. He is firmly committed to make Miramonti a place of leisure and reflection, offering guests unforgettable holiday experiences. He loves the power of nature and the spectacle of the seasons. He enjoys spending time with his guests and introduces them to nature and the beauty of the place in all its magnificence.

Carmen and Klaus are hoteliers by vocation and passion. They are the heart and soul of the Miramonti. Their success is also the success of their team. Both love nature, architecture and design. They always focus on the essentials. They remain faithful to their proven tradition of hospitality and feel connected to their guests. Discreet and personalized service, as well as attentive gestures of welcome, are a matter of course.

MM architecture. The power of shapes.

This extraordinary structure embodies authenticity, naturalness, and beauty. Built in the Alpine style of the 1970s, today the Miramonti stands proudly on a rocky massif, pleasantly discreet yet ever-present. It blends into the surrounding nature as if it had always been there. As soon as you enter, it is clear: this is a retreat with a distinctly minimalist Nordic design, and a strong connection with nature. The simplicity and concentrated energy of the mountains are evident all-around. All this characterizes the unmistakable style of the Miramonti Boutique Hotel and the very personal approach of the hosts, Carmen and Klaus.

In harmony with nature and protected by it, the Miramonti blends perfectly into the landscape. Thanks to the sensitivity of the studio “Tara Architekten”, the hotel is an alpine retreat with contemporary charm. The 44 suites and rooms offer tranquility and well-being: open and bright lofts, spacious double rooms, and large family rooms – all south-facing – welcome guests with clean lines, cutting-edge technology, and many personalized details.

MM Cuisine. Culinary delights.

Chef Massimo Geromel and sous-chef Sergio Chinellato take care of the well-being of the guests. The chef, featured in the Michelin Guide and the Italian gastronomic guide, L’Espresso, spoils them with a wide variety of culinary delights. Always attentive to authenticity and regionality, he sets a high value on local ingredients and prepares his dishes with love and creativity.

The Miramonti offers three restaurants that could not be more different. However, they share the same love and passion for good food. They live up to their names and delight the palate with the utmost pleasure: The Panorama Restaurant, the Osteria Montana, and the Stube parlour.

The Panorama Restaurant invites to embark on cosmopolitan journeys. Entirely dedicated to fine dining, it offers light and creative dishes in an elegant setting with breathtaking views. This is highly appreciated by external visitors. The restaurant has been awarded two hats by the guide L’Espresso and offers moments of true happiness to gourmets and connoisseurs.

The Osteria Montana is marked by typical Italian style and is skillfully integrated into South Tyrolean hospitality. The Osteria is also the place where guests start their day with a joyful breakfast and, in the afternoon, they are spoiled with homemade pastries and fresh seasonal fruit.

In the evening, in an informal atmosphere, the Osteria Montana invites to enjoy Mediterranean specialities, combined with tasty Alpine cuisine. Also, vegetarian and vegan dishes are available: guests can choose according to their preferences, à la carte of course.

The Stube parlour is synonymous with South Tyrolean culture. In the cozy atmosphere of the typical Val Senales rustic Stube, dating back to 1887 and preserved in its original state, dinner becomes a unique experience. Typical South Tyrolean specialties are served. Particularly popular are the tasty beef tartare and the original raclette with cheese from Val Pusteria Valley.

Massimo Geromel. Chef with passion.

Day after day, chef Massimo Geromel joyfully and creatively rises to the challenge to satisfy three concepts, three restaurants, the high expectations of the owners as well as the high demands of the guests. The chef, born in Treviso, in the past has delighted guests at the Michelin-starred Carpaccio Restaurant in Paris, the Four Seasons Hotel MilanoL, and the BVLGARI HOTEL MILANO L. He has worked at several exclusive restaurants in South Tyrol, and since 2012, Geromel has been passionately creating the culinary variety of the Miramonti Boutique Hotel.

MM Spa: essential, regenerating, inspiring, surrounded by natura.

The Miramonti Spa is a place that transcends everyday routine. Reduced to the essentials, it offers guests wellness, contact with nature, and inspiration in an intimate and aesthetically appealing environment. The sunny relaxation rooms convey restfulness, while the treatments and beauty rituals provide strength and energy. The wellness program comes along with sustainable care products from Comfort Zone, Davines, Trehs, and Team Dr. Joseph. Throughout the MM Spa, the atmosphere is discreet and pleasantly peaceful. Guests find themselves, feel nature, and enjoy strong well-being. The generosity and beauty of all the areas, as well as the professionalism, attention, and care of the spa team, transform an experience at the MM Spa into an inner and sensory journey of self-discovery.

The pride and joy of MM Spa is its outdoor infinity pool (up to 34°C) with amazing views of the Church of Santa Caterina, the mountains and the wide Merano valley. Millennial volcanic rocks and Piasentina stone transform the pleasure of bathing into a feast for the senses. Guests can also relax in the Japanese-inspired Onsen pool (up to 40°C), perfectly integrated into the rock. 36 stone steps below are the Finnish forest sauna, the bio sauna, the steam bath, and the outdoor hot tub (38°C) with views into the woods. The cozy wooden platforms, arranged on different levels, and furnished with selected design pieces, and the indoor and outdoor relaxation areas, invite to linger and recharge, to relax and meditate.

On the wind-sheltered sun terrace next to the infinity pool, guests can enjoy the incredible view, read a good book, take an espresso and homemade cakes, or a drink with friends. Those who want to exercise and strengthen their bodies without leaving home can stop at the Activity House, dedicated to training and relaxation. The gym on the first floor is provided with innovative Technogym cardio equipment, while on the upper floor, in the Sacred Space, qualified staff offer yoga, meditation, and mindfulness classes.

MM Activities.

The natural surroundings at the Miramonti Boutique Hotel and the unspoilt forest at the hotel’s doorstep invite to enjoy unconventional outdoor activities. Physical exercise in harmony with nature is possible in every season of the year and, especially at this altitude, it stimulates the health. The forest therapy, for example, is offered by a qualified expert in forest and wilderness matters in both summer and winter and promises positive effects for body, soul and mind.

The activities include trekking, jogging, hiking, e-mountain biking, horse riding, downhill skiing, sledding, cross-country skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, snowboarding, winter Nordic walking, winter hiking, horse-drawn carriage rides, and the exclusive Miramonti Forest Breakfast.

In addition to forest therapy with Nordic and fitness walking through 30 hectares of forest, also the so-called ‘Forest Momentum’ should not be missed: a sensory journey to the forest sound, where music and nature merge, and the delicate sounds of leaves and needles penetrate the silence, releasing emotions. An invitation to move to the rhythm of nature’s vibrations.

The legendary wine tastings with host Klaus in his private MONTI cellar, as well as the the wine tours in some of the greatest South Tyrolean wineries are unforgettable moments. They allow guests to dive into the local food and wine culture.

Last but not least, guests should not miss the “James Bond sessions”. Every Sunday evening, 007 classics are transmitted on the big screen, accompanied by homemade popcorn.

The Miramonti Boutique Hotel is synonymous of pure regeneration, well-being, and happiness. This transforms a stay in this unique mountain retreat in what we call the Miramonti way of life.

MM miramontimoments.

Following the typical guests’ route once arrived at the Miramonti, the first surprise is the purist furnished entrance area and its panorama: an elegant sofa, floor-to-ceiling windows and an overwhelming view. Finally arrived! Still captivated by the visual spectacle of the entrance, the tour leads to the cozy welcome area with reception and the elegant tearoom. When planning the heart of the hotel, the idea of exchange and tranquility was predominant. Guests enter and stay longer than expected: they want to linger, focus on the essential and the beauty.

Tastefully furnished by Carmen and equipped with a small library, the lounge with its fireplace invites to rest: reading, chatting, sinking into deep armchairs and dreaming, enjoying an aperitif, simply being inspired by the view or savoring a glass of wine or a cup of tea with friends in front of the crackling fire. In an informal and spontaneous way, without schedules, enjoying every moment. Simply be!

MM Experiences. Avelengo and surroundings.

The beautiful region around Avelengo/Hafling and the charming Merano 2000 skiing and hiking area attract nature lovers, sports enthusiasts and those who enjoy being active. The sunny Tschöggelberg plateau is known for its mild temperatures in winter and pleasant cool temperatures in summer. In every season of the year, this region is relaxing and offers joy and fun for young and old.

Merano 2000 offers well-groomed slopes and hiking trails, modern ski lifts, a fantastic 1,1 km toboggan run open all year round and, cozy mountain huts where to enjoy traditional food. In Winter, the Miramonti provides a shuttle service to the ski area with regular departures. In the warm season, the home of the famous Haflinger horses offers a wide range of activities like hikes to remote mountain huts, challenging via ferrata routes and ambitious summit climbs.

Of course, the Dolomites – UNESCO World Heritage Site – are part of the special Miramonti experiences. Visiting them is a must and a joy. They are worth a day trip. Whether it’s the Alpe di Siusi, the largest high plateau in Europe, or the Val Gardena valley, the Passo di Carezza pass or the Alta Badia region. The Dolomites offer beauty and excitement at its best.

The cities of Merano (20 minutes by car) and Bolzano (40 minutes by car) are very close to the Miramonti. While Merano has long been synonymous with mild climate, thermal treatments and southern carefreeness, in recent years the city has been experiencing a renaissance of its rich cultural and architectural heritage and is attracting an increasingly young and design-loving public. An audience that loves the city for its Mediterranean charm and for the relaxed atmosphere. Even Tyler Brûle, the founder of Monocle, fell in love with the city and wanted to stay.

The capital Bolzano is located at the crossroads of two languages and cultures. A lively atmosphere characterized by Italian carefreeness distinguishes life in Bolzano, as do its rich cultural offerings, the shopping opportunities and walking trails. Language, culture and gastronomy merge and transform the city into a coveted destination for travelers from all over the world.

NEW
Monti House (2024-2025)

The position

Just 300 meters from the Miramonti Boutique Hotel, nestled in the tranquility of the Avelengo countryside, right on the edge of the forest are based three houses. Protected to the back by the power of the forest with its variety of trees and rocks, sounds and smells, open to the front with magnificent view over meadows and forests, the little church of St. Kathrein, the impressive peaks of the Merano Texel Group and the panorama of the Adige Valley. The Monti House, conceived and created by Merano designer Harry Thaler, is a place of grounding for mind and soul, a stylish yet understated forest house.

The story

On the edge of a beech forest where the Monti House, with three stand-alone residential units, is located today. Before, it was the home of an old forest house. For many years it served as a summer retreat, without comfort, accessible only on foot. A place of peace and tranquility with breathtaking views. When the owner of the old forest house decided to sell it the ideal successors only could be Carmen and Klaus Alber. They immediately recognized the spirit and potential of this hidden retreat. The result: 90 years after the Miramonti opened in 1932 as a small mountain guesthouse with 3 rooms only, in 2024 the Miramonti continued to grow. With the Monti House and its 3 residential units the Miramonti success story continues to write new chapters.

The architecture

The history of Miramonti served as inspiration to designer Harry Thaler. Starting from Miramonti’s beginnings as a small mountain guesthouse with 3 rooms, he designed 3 connected individual wooden houses in a post-and-beam construction, the outer shell of which was clad with dark brown spruce boards. Out of respect for the natural surroundings, only minimal intervention was made in the terrain, and the architecture of the Monti House was adapted as much as possible to the slope. In order to offer guests sheltered and covered parking, Thaler designed an underground car park, which he carefully pushed into the porphyry rock underneath the Monti House. He skillfully made the entrance disappear into a natural cyclopean wall covered with lush native vegetation.

As an architectural reference to the old forest house, Harry Thaler based the style of the three units on the traditional architecture of a forest hut. To better emphasize this traditional form, the three houses were rotated by 180 degrees. The resulting building orientation underlines the sustainable character of the Climate House by optimizing the amount of light in the rooms and supporting energy generation through the photovoltaic system mounted on the roof.

While the classic pitched roof in the rear has been extended down to the ground towards the slope, in the front it has been eliminated and replaced by large terraces. At the same time, the 3 units were raised and adjusted in height. As a result, the 3 houses not only offer an unrestricted view of the surrounding nature and mountains, but also the privacy that the Monti Climate House represents as a forest retreat.

The interior design

Nature is the main protagonist in the Monti Climate House. The tranquility of the forest and the power of stone are reflected in all rooms. Natural local spruce runs elegantly through the living and sleeping areas and harmonizes with the local reddish porphyry in the bathroom and kitchen. Soft curves skillfully break with the straight lines of the architecture. The minimalist interior forms are the perfect counterpart to the opulent nature in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows. Timeless fabrics lend warmth and coziness to the forest retreat. The entire interior of the three houses – from the armchairs to the lamps, from the bed to the vases and ceramics – are unique pieces, designed by Harry Thaler exclusively for the Monti Climate House using high-quality, sustainable materials.
